Wales - Workers to be fined for not working from home
Discussion
I honestly thought this was a wind-up when I saw it on Twitter
Covid: Workers to be fined for not working from home

Covid: Workers to be fined for not working from home
More evidence that some politicians see covid as an excuse for ever more intrusions into people's everyday lives.
The notion that the state should regulate, by law, an individual's choice of place of work is, well, bonkers.
What next? Citizens required to get permission from Kim Jong Drakeford to go shopping? "Is your shopping trip truly necessary, comrade?"
I am, and have been, bitterly critical of the Tory government. But if this is what you get under Labour rule then you can keep it.

Many home workers (probably not all) depend on VPN access to carry out their daily job.
VPN access can be monitored - so I guess if they're not connected, or there is little to no traffic flowing, they are not working.
Huh? The Government doesn't care about your productivity at home, they just don't want you in the office. Poor wording I'll admit!VPN access can be monitored - so I guess if they're not connected, or there is little to no traffic flowing, they are not working.

Isn't demanding that people are only allowed to purchase the bare essentials something he already did last year? All those aisles in Sainsburys sheeted down as he had deemed the products to be non-essential?The notion that the state should regulate, by law, an individual's choice of place of work is, well, bonkers.

Bandwidth isn't a good metric for productivity, a worker could spend hours being productive in a spreadsheet and only create a couple of KB of data.
It depends on exactly what's being monitored. Some companies route web traffic through their VPN so f a lot of web traffic is detected for example - that could be used as a measure of productivity.
