Film censor upgrades age ratings

"The Empire Strikes Back, Jaws, Raiders of The Lost Ark, The Lord of the Rings and Ghostbusters are among the classic films which have been reclassified by the BBFC over the past decade".

Is changing from U to PG or PG to 12A really going to make a difference? Especially on these old films that will never be shown in cinemas again.

It will change where they appear on streaming platforms though and require an adult to approve it's watching.https://inews.co.uk/culture/film/star-wars-lord-of...

I'm always surprised that Back to the Future is a PG as it's quite sweary. Maybe I'm just a prude.
Aparently the profanity is classed as moderate, I suppose there are no F bombs or extremely rude wordsThe link give the reason for the PG rating.

When I first saw "Ghostbusters" in 1983 (I was 24 at the time) I thought that some elements of it were extremely adult and dark.
Talking about dark, I just had a picture of Diane Abbott looking at that and working out your age on an abacus...FOR THE AVOIDANCE OF DOUBT AND THE PH INQUISTION, THE USE OF THE WORD DARK DESCRIBES A STATE OF MIND AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH DIANE ABBOTT

I was bought on VHS when I must have been about 6 or 7, those demon dogs scared the crap out of me!
Ours was taped off the telly and seems it missed the start. I went about 30 years having no knowledge of the library ghost scene at the beginning and it scared the life out of me when me and the seven year old watched it six months back

I’m surprised they class attempted sexual assault as ‘mild’

I assume thats the bit with Biff and Loraine in the car at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance. Its just attempted/implied, you don't see an actual sexual assault or nakedness.“A teen man tries to attempts to sexually assault a teen girl in a car but a group of other men stop him.”

Having watched a lot of classic 80s 'family' films with my kids lately it's surprising how many contain a few s***s and a**holes! I guess when I saw them on UK bank holiday TV as a kid those bits were dubbed out!
Ghostbusters was a real outlier and IIRC the UK was one of the only countries not to give it a 15 or equivalent rating. I saw it at the cinema aged 7 and it scared the hell out of me. Also it's only watching it recently I realised the scene where Dan Ackroyd has a nightime visit from a lady ghost who unzips his trousers wasn't in the original UK 'PG' release...
Ironically the new Ghostbusters that just came out I thought was really not scary, don't recall any swearing and generally more family-friendly despite being 12A.

Maybe it's the Mandela Effect, but I swear that scene was on my VHS copy, although back then I just laughed because he was pulling a silly face.A Winner Is You said:
