I listen to a wide range of music, some of which is well in the electronic 'genre'. Under this heading are many other sub-genres, such as glitch hop.

Listening to artists such as Bicep, Bonobo, Burial, Rival Consoles and Ross From Friends et al, what fascinates me is the use of samples. whosampled.com is a great site to see where they came from but the fascination lies in how did they get to that particular two-second sample!?

Burial uses a one-second sample on one of his tracks and the mind boggles how he recognised that sound from a movie and thought it would sound great in a track (which it does).

If you’ve got Apple TV+ there’s a good little series presented by Mark Ronson called Watch The Music. He covers sampling in one of those and I found it fascinating to watch.

Top tip. If you're interested in anything music, the last thing you'll want to do is ditch everything Apple.

There’s a few of these that are quite interesting. They make it seem easy!

Also check out Rachel K Collier who does some nice Ableton walkthroughs that go into what it takes to make some tracks..

Andrew Huang's Four Producers One Sample series is a good watch to see what skilled people can do...
