Which leads should i get ?

Hi had car a year now and thinking about replacing the leads and maybe a few other things to improve the performance,any ideas?

Magnecor get a good read up on here, i've gone for some bespoke ones and will let everyone know how i get on with them in due course...

I bought the Magnecors from ACT, think I paid about £90ish if you have a look on their web site all prices are there!
Had no problems with mine - I had to replace them tho, so don't know what it would have been like with normal leads!

replacing your leads won't incraese performance though .. unless you're correcting a fault at the same time .. there's other threads with this topic at the mo

Or blue if you go for the standard ones. Plus the fact they match my car.
If your replacing the leads it may also be a good idea to replace the metal shrouds/adapters as these can also break down over time. One of my old ones literally crumbled away in my hand when I replaced them earlier this year. ACT also sell them.

How old are the dodgy batch? Had to take ours off (blue ones) and put standard leads back which has made a big difference. Was running rough with the Magnecores. No idea why but it was.

This is true, you need to be upgrading camshafts, plenums, airflow meters, injectors etc.... if you want performance gains.

Tim at ACT is a nice guy tho. and he wont b*llsh*t you with false claims!

Not sure, but i had a new set deliverred recently and they made the car worse, somebody also said that they had to replace theirs 3 times recently (will dig out the other thread in a mo)

I've had mine made by a guy in herts that makes them himself for a few race teams - does a lot of F3 teams and negates the need for resistors a well -

Were yours the 10 or 8.5's i believe tha fitting the 10's without an uprated coil has a big difference ??

I had the leads replaced at service with the OEM items on the 30k service. After Le Mans I went touring with Drum4it and the misses... and the car had to deal with 38-40oC temperatures in France and Spain... and think I cooked them (they were breaking down by the 36k service!!)

They've been replaced by Magnecores... can't say there is any difference in the way the car runs, but I'm hoping they'll last longer that the last lot ah well... best have another holiday to find out...!

I've seen the other thread.
I was told unless I uprate the coil, dizzy etc the Magnecores will make the car run poo.
Anyway it's OK now so i'll call Tim when I get a mo.

Hughsie, I've got some from the same guy via Ebay, 10mm in red, they are at least as good as the Magnecors if not better. Are you saying it is better to uprate the coil aswell or leave as standard?

if you want to use the full availability of the 10 mm ones you'll need something like a flame thrower coil...

its a bit like pissing down a tunnel when what you need to be doing is pissing down a piece of scaffold pole, the bigger the leads the bigger the spark you need.

I've had bespoke ones done (9mm) that use the original coil, i didnt want to upgrade the coil as i want my car kept as standard as possible...

My 2p worth - Had a nice day at Austec today doing a power run on the rolling road, diagnostic check and suspension alignment. Power output was good but car was a bit rough, some quick checks showed the standard HT leads to be pants. Replaced with a nice set of blue Magnecors plus a new coil and hey presto ! No more power but my P&J runs a heck of a lot smoother now, particularly at low revs/speed. Worth every penny.
