Broken windscreen
Discussion
Couldn’t resist having another tootle before the salt goes down and I’ve ended up with a crack in the screen
I’m insured through Footman James and I’m sure they’ll help me get a decent fitter on the job but has anyone got advice/tips before getting it done in the new year?
I would’ve thought it was a very specialised job for an experienced fitter.

IIRC FJ use National Windscreens. The experienced guy that fitted mine had fitted screens to all sorts of exotic machinery, including TVR's
over the years so I wouldn't necessarily worry. As ever these days, the quality of the job depends on who actually does the work, so worth talking to whoever arrives and checking they know what to do!

I don't know if the cerb is same as a Tamora(?) There are a series of flat steel sheet plates rivetted to the Tamora A pillar that the screen bonds to. When my screen was removed; A couple of these plates were found to be heavily corroded. I managed to delay the screen refitting while I got some replacements fitted. luckily I hadn't opted for mobile fitting.
My Cerbera was insured through FJ and the recommended company (National) had a chap who had experience of TVRs so it wasn't necessary to insist on a TVR specialists. The issue was actually getting a screen, in early 2019.
The earlier models (termed Mk1, it was a 1998 car) with the wider dark bands and carbon A pillars nobody kept on the shelf. Central TVR had several Mk2 ones but not the Mk 1s. Companies (all I asked) were reluctant to buy just 1 screen, they usually buy 6 at once because of shipping costs from TVR Parts. it was 9 weeks before the job was done although it was a good one when completed. It wasn't my only car so and it was a good job it wasn't !!
I'd suggest you make sure whoever does it can actually get a screen before you deliver the car. Mine was about a 4" crack so I felt OK driving it until a screen appeared but if you have a very bad crack, this may not be advisable.

There was a member on here who was high up/the boss, of one of the large windscreen companies and when mine was replace (15 years ago now) he had one of the original TVR windscreen fitters who came to the local branch to do mine. They had it for two days to allow time for everything to bond properly. Brilliant jobs as it's still great now.
Merry Christmas and thanks for your help.
I’ve been reading a lot of previous posts about this to arm myself with knowledge. Here’s where I am:
My car is a 99 with a rollbar hoop near the screen, it has sun visors and the carbon trim on the screen pillars. So it is a late mk 1 and should have a 30mm seal as opposed to the earlier 50mm seal.
My screen has been set in mastic and has a thin 15-20mm rubber trim set in the mastic all the way round tidying up the fit,it hasn’t lasted as this rubber trim is loose in places and I think it’s leaking on the drivers side. It’s not a traditional seal at all.
I’m guessing when this was fitted there was either no seals or correct screens available. I’m not with the car at the moment so I can’t check the screen code.
I’m a bit confused as some previous posts say they the seal is different sizes top, bottom and sides.
I need to enquire as to the availability of correct seals and screens before removing what I have.
How do the carbon side trims come off?, I read that there are a couple of screws inside that have to be removed 1st.
