Hi All,
Just purchased a VW approved used car, picked it up yesterday and loving it. Car was relatively high mileage (65000 on a 67 plate) but came with 2 years VW warranty and servicing so I went ahead.

Picked the car up yesterday, it’s lovely can’t fault it. But decided to run a VCheck on the car for peace of mind.

It’s 2 Owners, the first being a VW demo/ management car for 8 months and the 2nd being the first real owner who kept it for 3 years and 8 months. The car was originally supplied in 2017 by the dealer that are selling it used so was a local car.

I really like the car. And I am not worried as I have 30 days to exchange it or get my money back. But do you think this is a mileage blocker? And will it affect resale values in the future?

Thanks all and Merry Christmas

On the 18/9/2020 it was recorded with 2 different mileages. I’m guessing the higher one here is a mistake.

I doubt anybody would use a mileage blocker to only knock 5k off.

Service advisor has entered the wrong mileage on invoice which has uploaded as an RMI result as two different mileages on the same date plus a similar mileage 4 days later. This would imply the car was being sold by a dealer at the time.

Try as I might to stop it, a certain scene from Ferris Bueller came to mind.

Thanks all. I assumed it probably was a mistake but I have mentioned it to the dealer anyways.

Why didn't you do this before you bought it?

Wife has a Tiguan and I had a ton of back and forth with VW UK about the MyVolkwagen App showing the wrong info (VW's solution was to can the App!).

VW and the dealer blamed each other - as part of the dealer sent me their internal system record and a print of the VW central system and there was a 5K mismatch on some of the work (car only does 5K per year).

I'd be pressuring the dealer to put that right for you, even if it's an obvious mistake.

The records can be corrected if it can be identified who made the mistake, and they supply info to confirm the mistake to NMR

Used approved cars are supposed to be checked for things like these.

The reason you need to get it changed?

When you come to sell it, and start offering it to dealers/buying sites, the car will show a mileage discrepancy on checks and said dealers may decline to buy it. Even though it's a clear mistake, it becomes what we call "A story car"

You didn't know about HPI/VCheck & you're a member of PH, you'll have seen many a thread where someone has done a HPI/VCheck to late.

This is just a mistake but one you need to get corrected.

I was given a HPI check when I bought the car from VW.

I was buying an Approved Used VW product not a car from a dodgy backstreet dealer.

As said above, operator fat fingers.

My approved used Merc had a similar alert pop up, for about 300k miles. but a quick look and some maths, it seems that they just put too many digits into the computer!!

Again it's the same thing no matter who you're buying from, you do YOUR checks (this will serve as a lesson for others) that way you're not reliant on anyone else doing the ground work.

I had three Mercs that all did over 300k, so not a mistake in my case smile

And be wary, one of them resurfaced with just 75k recorded miles at the next MOT.

OP I'll take the sugar coating off my reply for a moment.

I spent many years buying, and remarketing cars to main dealers to often be sold as "Used approved"

If I offered them a car which showed a mileage discrepancy on Hpi I'd get one of the following replies :-

"Sorry not for me"

"Come back to me when you've sorted it out"

"Why are you wasting your time, and mine, offering me a car with a mileage discrepancy"

Get the dealer to sort this, they shouldn't be selling "Used approved cars" with mileage discrepancies, even though it's a mistaken entry.

Make them do the work to get it rectified.

I traded a Golf to a well known Main dealer group that sold it as an VW Approved Used car. It was HPI and VCheck clear but had been used by a 17 year old who thrashed the life out of it. It came back to us with second hand tyres that were a lot older than the car, it had been repaired on nearly every panel including the roof, had changed suspension parts from when he “ditched it” etc.

Worst part is we were open about the condition when we listed it and they still bought it.
