Daily, fast, 4 seats, V8, £50k - help
Discussion
Morning…
We have a campervan, EV run around and sports car - but are lacking a semi-practical everyday car.
Looking for something exciting and fast, but also with 2 reasonable seats in the back for young kids.
Main criteria:
- ideally V8, with proper performance.
- 3 or 5dr, but prefer coupes.
- not too big, don’t want a barge when driving alone.
- 4/5yr old max, with modern infotainment etc.
- £50k ready to go, don’t really want to go above. Would consider new on a 0% PCP or something, but happy to buy outright.
- nothing too obscure.
Main contender currently is a 2016/7 C63s Coupe or potentially estate.

Looked at RS6’s, but for my budget they’re getting a bit old for my liking. Not interested in M4’s or M3’s or similar with turbo V6’s - got the T-shirt.
Cheers.

Rear seats are no bigger than 911, so not that great. Plus FIL has one. Otherwise a fab car though…PH User said:
Not a coupe and it hasn't got a V8......
Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio
Mmmmm
They’ve never done anything for me. I had an M4 and that did very little for me either..Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio

Very Fast and very good, but lacking. I changed the M4 for a NA 911 and own an S2000. So for me the engine is the main part, unfortunately all of these 2.9/3.0 turbo 6cyl are great, just not engaging or exciting enough.
Maserati Granturismo?
Most big v8 cars are going to feel like a boat alongside the cars you mention to be fair. The problem I have with the C63 is that if you take the engine out you pretty much have a C class AMG line. Sure it makes a nice noise when pressed but for over 90% or daily driving when you can’t use the power and access the noise it doesn’t feel in any way special.

I don’t agree, C63s and M4s feel relatively agile even compared to a 911 - hence why I’m considering the C63. However the mustang is quite a bit softer and initial body roll is too much for the tight/twisty roads around here. Most big v8 cars are going to feel like a boat alongside the cars you mention to be fair. Agree with what you say about the c63, but the same can be said about the QF, M4/M3 etc. At least the merc C class is a nice place to begin with, much nicer than the 3/4 series.
Maser GT. So spent a lot of time reading up on these last night - will try and find one locally and have a nose about. A recent 4.7 MC looks mega…

The good thing with the Maser GT is the rear seats are large enough to seat 6ft adults comfortably. Even though the tech is old now for the money it would feel far more special than a C63
I think it’s worth having a poke around, you’re right with the size and the “special”. Just depends how well it drives…Cheers for your help.
Have a 2018 C63S Coupe and it's a lovely thing, makes a great noise when you want but can also do the quiet motorway run when needed. It's not subtle so you need to be prepared to talk about the car as it starts a conversation most times I stop for fuel (which is a lot).
Very comfortable place to sit, my companies head office is just over 300 miles (each way) from home and I venture up there every couple of months and yes it would cost 50% of the fuel and maintenance to take a C220d but there is something so so special about the 4.0 TT V8. When the M6 is busy I run the backroads either through Wales or the peaks and you don't get stuck behind trucks or slow moving traffic for long.
Its not just a C class with a big engine, its wider, longer, has a stiffer chassis, special steering rack, variable engine mounts, e diff etc etc. The only body panels it shares with the standard C class is the roof doors and boot lid. It is a very special car in the same way the M3/M4 are so different from the base car its basically a different car.
My only issue is it is so capable that its a bit inert at road speeds, not really something to grab by the scruff of the neck and drive because its to fast you are licence loosing speed very quickly.

How about a Nissan GT-R. Just outside your 5 year old requirement and not a V8 but still stunning performance.

That has got to be one of the worst engine bay cleans I've seen for a long time! Whoever did that used at best a mop.......https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202102108...
Just read your comments on not liking how Mustangs drive - what about trying this one with 730 bhp? Hopefully they have done something to improve the handling too
