I'm currently driving around emptying post boxes (I'm allowed, I'm a postie) and I'm amazed at how many newly posted Christmas cards are in the boxes today. Obviously someone has received a card at the last minute and realised they didn't send one to that person so decided just to send one today even though Christmas is past and blame it on " that terrible mail service".

What's the point?

When I was a Postie many years ago we had people who sent cards for New Year.

You know that they're Christmas cards because...?
So many possibilities other than that. Thank You cards are still a "thing" in many households, and v. popular after the gift-giving extravaganza of Christmas. Covid cases are up so Get Well Soon cards must be a fast-moving line at Clinton Cards et al. My son has a birthday soon. Statistical likelihood is that roughly 2% of the population also have a birthday to celebrate within the next week. That's about 1.3 million birthdays and most people receive more than one card . Cards sent as invitations to NYE parties? Wedding invites?
I can't see my parents at the moment (Covid travel restrictions), so I'm going to buy a card for them, and write them a letter to tuck inside it. For no other reason than receiving a card seems to be something that older folk regard as being "nice".

Me too. I posted a card on Christmas Eve; wasn't a Christmas card it was for my BIL's birthday.
It was his birthday on Boxing day, so I might have blamed the post for it arriving late.
Off topic: I had never heard the term 'imposter syndrome' until recently as I saw it used on another thread. I actually think it sums up how I feel about my job, or at least part of it where I supervise a team of engineers: I'm confident I'm good at the engineer side of the job, but always feel like I'm waiting to get found out for not being good enough as a supervisor. I have a plan though: I'm quitting after Christmas and starting an early retirement instead.
