Upgrading advice from Volvo s80 to v70
Discussion
Hi All,
I’m thinking of upgrading from my Volvo S80 (2009 D5) to a v70. Has anyone done this and we’re there any noticable differences in the drive. Is the upgrade a good idea. The reason is more boot space for kids and mutt. I still thinking of getting an auto v5… so like for like.
I’m also perplexed as to why are v70s almost 50% more than the saloon s80?

Suspect that you mean downgrade? The S80 is a nicer car and great place to be in. (Only owned one S80 but all variants of V70 in both T5/D5.)
MPG should be similar if you go with same D5 variant coupled to same gearbox.
The V70 is a great car but felt like an estate even though shrinks around you but S80 just "better".
The S60 and V70 shared many components.
Prices so far apart as S80 unloved whilst V70 is/was liked.

I would go and test drive a V70. At that age you are looking at the MK3 which was the same platform as the MK2 S80 and are very similar on the inside with the same dash and seats etc.
An estate will never be as quiet as a saloon due to the open boot but they are still a very relaxing place to be

The MK2 V70 and MK1 S60 shared the same platform and the S60 was based on the V70. MPG should be similar if you go with same D5 variant coupled to same gearbox.

When the MK3 V70 came out in 2007 it was twinned with the S80 whilst the S60 moved down a size and was twinned with the New V60.
