He's been awarded Order of the Garter which is a high honour and one bestowed by the Queen rather than being nominated by the PM's office.

Most PMs get them, and Queen owes him one for covering up her assassination of diana using 007 advising on how to handle Diana's death.

Now Blair is done , is Brown up next year?

An awful lot of them in British history. What is your point?

Since the introduction of life peerages and the presumption against hereditary titles, it is a constitutional convention that all former Prime Ministers are made KG or KT at some point after leaving office

Sad times, possibly an all time low from the Queen.

Lost for words.

Hate Blair but I'm more against sports and entertainment people receiving them, simply for doing what they're good at (whilst getting paid).

Knighthoods should be for charity, community, philanthropy and bravery

+1

Seems pretty at odds with a lot of public sentiment. It might be her choice but what message does this send not only to her own "subjects" but also to the rest of the world especially those who have suffered.

The BBC article mentions that the awards have been brought forward this year (from April) but doesn't say why. I wonder if there's an expectation that she won't make it that far.

Just seen the list on the metro.co.uk and on that note a little puzzled by the OBE for

John Martin Bickford De Vismes Martin St. Valery. Chair, Market Entry Solutions – JacksonMSV and Chair, British Business Group of Dubai & Northern Emirates. For services to UK businesses in the United Arab Emirates.

A quick Google comes up with nothing more than what looks like dodges and fixes for dealings in the UAE?

Nope, hence the question, but given your reply I can "nudge, nudge and wink, wink" take a guess..

Out of the entire Internet, he uses the website of that free paper you pick up on the bus for his news source of choice, so no. But he is an expert on Katie Price biggrin

Like him or oaths him, when he speaks you realise how inept the prime ministers that have followed him are.

Bit harsh. Consider the Metro as not much more than a comic at best and a good source of things for the "a bit council" thread but certainly not primary news source. Was looking for early reports of new year carnage, ended up skimming the honours list and the above stood out.

Sorry for not being being the most sophisticated poster on PH but for what its worth I consider Katie Price as pretty much an oxygen thief even if said paper thinks the sun shines out her bottom.
