Had planned to make chicken, leek and ham pie for lunch, but no double cream in shops!

Can I use creme fraiche instead?

Let it down slightly with stock or milk or it can be a bit too heavy but it will work fine.

I've used it loads of times, does help having a little extra liquid with it in the rest of the filling.

Success! My first ever pie! Really quite proud of myself, not being a natural cook - was lovely.

I like pork pies. I just dont like the pastry the Melton Mowbary ones use. I dont know if its something specific to their pastry because other pork pies with hot water crust pastry is fine.

Was in our local gastro-pub recently and another customer asked what the pie of the day was. "Cottage pie" was the answer!

How can you not like a *genuine* Melton Mowbray pork pie. Excellent.

Ha! Nice try, but that's not a pie. Nor are those stews with lids that most pubs pass off as pies. Gotta have a bottom;)

Problem is getting a "genuine" pie, supermarket crap is not the same.

More mace with a thin and crispy hot water crust with extra jelly, maybe a bit fancy with a bit of mustard powder as well

Serve room temp with pickled veg smile

Only the few genuine Melton Mowbray pork pie producers can claim 'Melton Mowbray'.
Any other pork pies are quite inferior.
