Change in UK society since WW2

I was watching the music video for Everything Counts by Depeche Mode yesterday. It struck me that 1983, when it was released is 39 years ago. Then I worked out that the gap between 1983 and the end of WW2 in 1945 is less at 38 years.
Of course a lot has changed since 1983, computers, the internet, mobile phones, social values yet looking at the video from 1983 and then looking at footage of the end of WW2 (and watching films made in the 40s) I get the impression that today and 1983 are much closer in culture and society than 1945 and 1983. But is that just because I experienced 1983 and not 1945? Or I am influenced because films and footage from 1945 are almost exclusively in black and white? I’m not sure.

I've encountered real hardship, I'd fight so my family never have to go through what I did. There are plenty of people right now that go through hardship everyday. One might suggest you haven't a clue what you're on about Esceptico said:

Yes, because for YOU the change has been gradual. Whereas when you're comparing 1945 - 1983 you're looking at two discrete time periods. Another thing to mention is that most of us are probably better off than our parents were (I can still remember having to use an outside toilet and ice on the inside of bedroom windows) . That's another thing which distorts comparisons between time periods

ive no doubt tbh, it must have started somewhere, i just really started to notice it around that time. Worse than ever now, pretend to be totally selfless but actually be as selfish as you can be while looking down at anyone who doest agree.
If you have 20 minutes to spare this shows a postwar culture which has virtually disappeared.

If you compare 1945 with 1860 then you would see a huge change in culture too, just as great, if not greater, than from 1945 to now. In 1860 steam traction engines didn't yet exist, and by 1945 farmers were using comparatively modern petrol engine combines, and hauliers diesel lorries. Earthdweller said:

I was born then too. On the face of it I'd say that now is just the same as 1983 but with internet and iphones. Countdown said:

Even taking that into account, 1983 and 2022 seem closer in culture than 1945/1983. Just looking at the video from 1983 you can see that music, dress and youth culture is not that far from today compared to the big band and crooning of 1945. Although not yet embraced by all, in 1983 people generally believed in equality between the sexes, racism was seen as bad and homosexuality was on the cusp of public acceptance. There had already been mass migration to the UK and we even had a woman prime minister (although she had more balls than her cabinet colleagues).
Next time I see my mother I will try to get her views as she lived through both periods.

There was huge change post ww2 with massive societal changes particularly in the 60s. After the 80s till now it’s been far more gradual I’d say.
The fact that depeche mode and all those punk bands in the 70s and post punk new romantic and synth pop 80s bands appeared in dormitory towns showed how much the country had changed and the post war social revolution that had taken place.

I don’t know anyone who’s that bothered by brexit. People aren’t as polarised in the real world as the more extreme views you see people express on social media where communication is usually more direct and opinions more binary.

I was born just 11 years after WWII, saw the Beatles in 1965 and hope to still be alive in 20 years time! Are you sure your maths is correct? I was born 20 years after WW2 to a father that fought in it
