Milkyway Sr ( 92) & I having our usual evening argument, banter or reminiscing session.
Would love to get him into the late 20th Century if possible.
Fun discussing about our four generations.

He just likes to think that it was so much better in his generation.
There again, I wouldn’t want to be a teenager these days either...

Im just trying to explain why the mother in law to be should get whstsapp on her phone. Then we can share pics and wedding plans etc slot easier with her. She can text and use a smsrt phone. She is just strangely resistant to having anything more than the standard apps on her phone.

Except for growing up in a war zone he’s probably right. For straight white men at least…

My Dad bought this iPad five years ago (now mine)
I had to set up a Facebook for him, but he has no clue how to use it... everybody calls me his private secretary.
He can’t even tune in a TV.
He has his own pad now, he’s just happy with his games, news etc....just the basic stuff.

How about offering the MiL a compromise? If she lets you put Whatsapp on her phone, and agrees to look at what you send for a month, then if she really doesn't think its worth having after the month, you agree to remove it and not raise the subject again.

Try not to worry about it.

It's coming out of your inheritance anyway, so it doesn't matter.

My dad will buy stuff on the internet, but “won’t use online banking”.

I think he thinks that all his money physically sits behind the weblage, just like some people thought that little people used to exist in the telly box for entertainment.

My Dad hardly watches TV... last year, he ‘popped out’ & returned with a 55” flat screen.
Not much wrong with the old box really... still got it.
Still... He enjoyed his Strictly. rolleyes

NB; Good job he didn’t get the intended 60”, wouldn’t have fitted in the recess....didn’t even measure it in the first place anyway.

My mother (85) has resisted any modern technology, no computer, smart phone, etc etc.

Somehow last year someone manage to crowbar an Amazon Fite Tablet in her hand and she loves Facebook and Direct messenger. However she complains that there is nothing on TV these day but repeats. I have lent her DVD's and added her to my Netflix but she says she forgets to use them/it.

My Mum bless her... would spend hours on the iPad doing her word searches. angel
Or I would just find her silly little things to watch.

Milkyway Sr quote: “ I don’t care how long it takes me, if it saves me a pound” yikes

He’s always fiddling, tinkering or repairing something.
Quite often, just have to ask.... “What are you doing now!”
( If I don’t ask, he will tell me with an in depth explanation anyway)

Today’s debate...
Heating on constantly at set temperature 24/7
Heating put on when required & switch off at night.

Big Brother & Service engineer say 24/7... on smart meter so maybe give it a go & monitor it.
(Might be able to break a lifetimes habit).

NB: On the EV front... maybe Tesla’s on the back burner at mo.

My plumber says leave it on 24/7 but turn it down by a degree or so at night and/or when you're not in the house.

I tend to follow that when it's really cold, but when it's mild like the last few weeks, turn it off at night and when we're not in.

Good idea... notedthumbup
Got the CRV’s on the rad’s balanced just nicely now.
Experts reckon 72 for the living room, but we find 65 is just about right.
We don’t like warm bedrooms anyway... never have.

Do the older generation have a ‘filter’, or just say what they are thinking... please or offend, as they say?

Those moments when you have to bite your lip & your toes curl...

Quote of the year....so far;
“ I never go above 30,000 revs”... not a typo, he said this three times whilst describing his unique driving style. yikes

Does his rev counter read in American iirc. They have rev counters that are 10,20,30 etc and you x100 to get to the 1000's rpm

I will have a look tomorrow, I will try to adhere to the 30,000rpm limit... or a tad under.
