I wake up 2 hours earlier than my wife. The iPhone alarm is waking both of us up.

I've heard there are modern alarm clocks that wakes you up with a gentle light brightening, and very gentle soothing sounds. Something I can click off quickly before the missus gets disturbed.

I've got no budget, I'll buy whatever is considered best on the market. What would you recommend?

Not sure if it’s the sort of thing you want, but I use a Apple Watch which wakes me up by vibrating on my wrist thus not waking the wife up.

I’m sure other smart watches do the same if you don’t want to go down the Apple route.

"Why is your wrist moving under the duvet?"

"Oh er, that's the alarm love!"

I use a Lenovo Smart Clock. It runs the same Google system as their speakers and displays. Instead of an alarm I just have it run the morning routine, which in my case is too trigger the Philips hue bulb in the bedside lamp to come on. In the half hour before that the screen of the clock brightens so the lamp coming on isn't a sudden shock of blinding light. It has a USB A port on the back so you can connect up your phone if you want it to charge overnight.

I’ve got the Alexa Dot with clock, you can get the dot to switch it’s own led ring on, or switch on a smart plug connected to a lamp, or switch on a smart lamp and play soothing sounds etc.

I use my Dot Clock and one of these - https://amzn.to/3ERQbeN

"Sleep as Android". Totally customisable and monitors your sleep pattern, so it might wake you up a bit early if it thinks you are in "light" sleep. It also fades in relaxing audio like forests and rivers.

It also records any sounds you make. I don't use it much any more as the ex complained about me snoring, and when I checked I sounded like a power drill.

I’m in the same boat with my wife and use an Apple Watch as well.

My wife wakes earlier than me and was using the same alarm tone which would wake me too. She changed tones a couple of times and found one which would wake her but I was desensitised to. A bit of trial and error and you should get there with phones.

Another vote for the Apple Watch.

We use these, but they are extremely bright, even in night mode.

Just a heads up in case you didn't know, you can say "Alexa, turn off screen", which is handy, as I too find it too bright at night.

Any other command will then bring the screen back to life.

When I'm on day shifts I'm up at about 0530-0600 so I use my phone under pillow (I use sleep as Android to monitor sleep), when I'm not working and need an alarm we set it on Google home screen.
