Hi all, looking to go to Lake District in May with the family. Wondered if anyone has any recommendations for a good touring site. We prefer quiet, needs to accept a dog, preferably in walking distant of a village including a pub...Any info welcomed.

The caravan club site at Low Manesty in Borrowdale is/was a family favourite. Beautiful site in the woods, red squirrels eat their breakfast around the trees.

Lovely walk across the duck boards around the bottom of Derwent water to the Borrowdale Hotel for drinks and meals. Only drawback is no loo block. If you’re in a tourer it’s no issue.

Otherwise, we’ve stayed at Troutbeck as well - newly redone toilet blocks which are among the best I’ve ever used. You’re a bit out on a limb on the eastern edge of the lakes however.

Timbob have you been to the Coniston site? Just wondered if you had, how it compares to Manesty as I've been to Coniston and wasn't that impressed. Some of the pitches are really dark and it doesn't drain all that well.

Beautiful site, or that's how I remember it from when my grandparents used to take me as a kid back in the 80's. I have a photo of me there with a red squirrel on my head. I'm sure back then the site was called Low Manesty, but it's now called Borrowdale? I'm planning to return there for my 50th birthday in March, the first time back there since being a kid.

Dont attempt to take it over Wrynose Pass like some muppet did a couple of years ago. Leaving a mile of stuck vehicles behind it.

Ambleside football club and the rugby club often use the pitches in the off season for camping/caravans.

Braithwaite village campsite.

Two pubs in the village plus only two miles from Keswick for shopping/eating. Quite close to Whinlatter too if you’re into MTB or throwing yourself down zip lines.
