Dear all

I've bought an '01 S6 4ltr and did it all in a bit of a rush really, (the excitement was UNBEARABLE!) Anyway, it appears to have had , (according to the service card) a 'fresh' (?!?!) engine around late '04 at approx 19k at Racing Green. I'll call them to find out exactly what they did tomorrow but what is the extent of my 'fresh' engine likely to be? Are all the latest mods likely to have been carried out? One assumes that 'Racing Green' are a decent bunch of chaps hut is there anything I should be asking about specifically?

Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou, (Will do it in person if it makes you happy at the Tuscaneers do!)

2001 engine at 19k miles... chances are it's either done reasonably well on the followers, or the valve guides have gone fairly early.

So, likelihood is a top end rebuild - new finger followers are almost a dead cert (the most common problem), and hopefully replacement valve guides (probably the second most common problem). If it's getting through no oil at all, it's probable that the valve guides were replaced. All pure guesswork, mind.

I'm sure RG will do their best to fill you in, though. Would personally go through the paperwork of it and see what that says about the work.

If it was done by the factory they will know what they did

Talk to RG first and get as much from them and then follow it up to get some peices if the jigsaw. James is right the top end will have been done, but to what extent I'm not sure. Mine was done Oct 2004 and has had whloe top end upgraded, but is was all knackered anyway so they had no choice.

Get out and enjoy the car

Thanks chaps - Have spoken to RG this afternoon and apparently a 'fresh engine' can mean pretty much anything but DOES include finger followers and valve guides. This was carried out in Feb this year (2000 miles ago) so I guess that I should count myself lucky! Thanks again for your help!
