Vantage MY2016 iPod functionality

I’ve just upgraded from a MY13 Vantage to an MY 16 Vantage. In the old one the specific Aston 30 pin cable plugged into and old iPod worked fine. In the new car there are two usb only sockets. If I plug my old iPods into either usb with the standard Apple 30pin lead, then it doesn’t show up on the screen. They are the old HDD iPods that use a 30 pin connector but they do work in my 2015 BMW. I’ve tried two different cables and two different iPods.

Can anyone shed any light on this. Are old iPods just not compatible? Are newer ones the only ones that work? Is it the cable? Or has the car got a fault? Or is it best to just use a usb stick now?

I can get CarPlay to work (lightning cable only) and also play music via Bluetooth from my phone but the old iPods have a lot of music on them and I’d really like to find out if they can work before I dump them.

And wher the heck is the sd card for satnav updates? On the old one it was under the tourneu cover (Roadster), but it ain’t there on the 2016 model!

Is your 2016 also a Roadster, or a Coupe?

Roadster. There is a big Bluetooth module where the satnav box was on my 2013 model
