For some reason, a relative is asking me for advice on buying a '75ish Mustang V8. Now, I know nothing about 70s US cars, and I've looked at pictures of them and I wouldn't touch one with yours, but assuming that I can't just say that, and I'm sure there are people out there who love them, are there any arguments for or against, anything specific to look for or avoid, common problems, that kind of thing? It's supposedly in good nick, sub 60k miles. Any thoughts much appreciated.

Horrible things.

Only thing they were useful for was donating their front suspension to many a street rod in the decades afterwards.

Mustang owners club uk would be a great place to start, friendly with a wealth of UK specific info

To me they look ghastly, but looks are subjective.

Obvious non subjective issue is that if the still had the original anti smog kit they will be painfully slow (for a 5litre V8), and the other side of that coin is that I would expect surviving examples to have been modified, with varying degrees of success.

Thanks all. It turns out it might actually be a 96 instead, which doesn't look much better, but I'm not certain that he's actually sure which yet, so that's probably something he needs to figure out before we go any further.
