French Legal Advice after death

Hi
My father has recently passed away and has been living in and owned a property in France for some time. I'm named as an executor of his UK will but have no idea how these things work in France. The UK solicitor has no experience in French law or process.
Can anyone recommend a solicitor who has experience in this area?.. or has anyone been through a similar situation?..

I’d post on the French section, right at the bottom of this forum, and ask for an English speaking local Notaire. There are usually very helpful.

This is why you see old properties in France boarded up, one of the beneficiaries doesn't agree with the others on how it is to be disposed of. Imagine 2 adult children who have inherited an equal share, want to buy out the other and are refusing to do anything on the basis that the other will give up - eventually.
We're currently going through this as well.
You really need to appoint a Notaire to go all through the process. Ideally you should find an English speaking one in the area, as any Real-Estate will have to be estimated for its current market value. As this is probably the biggest asset on which taxes will be calculated, it's of utmost importance that things are made correctly, or you may end up paying a lot of taxes.
