Surrendering My License Query

If the GP/Consultant says you are fit to drive, then re-apply. Without checking the latest rules, I believe you can drive, within the Road Traffic Act, whilst the application is being reviewed.
Note: after a first nocturnal seizure in 2007, I surrendered my licence. My GP said I was a bit hasty, but my instincts and sense of responsibility were correct, because 6 months later I had a second nocturnal seizure. When I had ‘served my time’ under medical review - that is, no daytime seizures, I re-applied and drove whilst the application was under review. Now, after a bit of adjustment and variation of medication I am seizure free. It makes you appreciate that driving is a privilege, not a right.

If you have applied for your licence back and are waiting on the DVLA processing it , you should be able to drive under the provisions of s.88 of the Road Traffic Act 1988

I have a friend who had to surrender their licence after medical issues last year who is awaiting their licence application being dealt with - in case they get stopped they got a letter from the treating consultant stating they were able to drive again and carried that along with a copy of s.88 and a text chat with their insurer.

So today, i can go get the D1 form, carefully fill this in (attached a copy of the consultants letter for what its worth) and get it back to them via a special or recorded delivery service.
I have check my license details online this morning and its still showing as being current, i'm guessing that the ODL (declaration of Surrender for Medical Reasons) form has not either been received or processed yet, im expecting the latter to be more likely.
How am i meant to know hen the DVLA are in receipt of my application, via an online check or by the delivery status?

Royal Mail do various tracking services. Use that rather than a ‘certificate of posting’.
