The grass is greener?
Discussion
I hope the mods don't move this to Home and Garden...
Been pondering this a lot lately for various reasons, possible related to the loss of my Dad last year (not unexpected, but it knocked me back more than I would have thought, as it felt like he'd gone 4-5 years ago due to Dementia).
I took the time to log back on some old forums over Christmas that I'd dropped off from (not here obviously
). I saw the same old thing; people buying more gear, then saying how marvelous it was at the start of the thread, then seeing further down that they'd got rid of said item, for 'something better', then rinse and repeat. Some regretting selling things (guitars, amps, AV stuff/projectors, etc) as they realised for all the expense they already had something more than good enough for the intended purpose. I've even seen some people search out a previous guitar to buy back again for example.
Then people I've met personally and through work/colleagues/customers and heard similar stories about how they'd moved or changed jobs and wish they'd stayed where they were before. Or, more related to this site, sold a car and wished they'd kept it, or perhaps had over stretched their budget to get something they thought would be life changing. Only to find it's sat on the drive most of the time and hasn't really changed anything apart from their disposable income.
Makes me wonder if it's so hard to see that you've already hit the peak so to speak, that you don't know until it's gone? Is it just in our nature to think that the grass is greener on the other side?
