Insurance query

I have a business where I'm the only employee. I use sub contractors to work on homes. I have public liability for when I'm in people's houses (selling). The sub contractors have their own PLI for when they are in customer's homes working, using tools etc. So far, so simple.
There's a job come up where there is a factor involved, and they are insisting my business has public liability insurance, and won't accept the sub contractors policy as it's in his name and not my business. Have I got it wrong?

This cropped up when I was a producer hiring a freelance cameraman. A place I wanted him to film at wanted insurance. I spoke to my insurer and they said it was up the cameraman's insurers. He spoke to his insurers and they said it was up to mine. Wonderful.
If you're an employee it suggests your business is a company, ie a separate legal entity.
That aside, you're the business/company being hired and that's the business/company they have a contract with, so logic suggests it's either 'Mr Technodup' or 'Technodup Ltd' they'll be going for, and it might be easiest to extend your/its PL cover to 'working away'.
