Dealer still not paid for PX after 3 weeks. Incompetence!
Discussion
Hi All,
Long one, venting!
Just shocked at the incompetency that Main Dealers have at the moment. This is a VW Dealership not mentioning the exact one though as they have my car and a lot of my money.
Px’d my old Audi against a 2018 Golf R on the 24th of December. Financed the golf with a £6k deposit from equity in the Audi and pocketed the rest (£8500). Audi was worth £14500. Made sense as I’m looking to buy a house and the Golf came with 2 years warranty and servicing plus the Audi was due a lot of work this year.
Signed the Audi over to them and got given the keys to the Golf, they said the £8.5k would be with me on the 26th/27th.
Meanwhile got given a Christmas hamper from the sales manager who asked me please to give them 5 stars feedback and do not under any circumstances give less than this as they don’t get a bonus. Told me to email him if I had any issues.
Was then left to walk out to the Golf R in the carpark by myself and wasn’t even shown round the car… hardly the handover I was expecting.
Well fast forward 2 weeks, and plenty of other issues as mentioned on a previous threads, 5 emails and countless phone calls. The sales manager ever taken my call nor replied to an email. I still haven’t been paid, and upon calling yesterday was told to be patient by the receptionist. As my salesman had caught covid and the sales manager was on holiday. So I asked to talk to the Buisness manager who told me I would be paid by the afternoon (Friday).
Sure enough, wasn’t paid Friday. And upon calling this morning a Salesman told me to be patient again and I should have the money by WEDNESDAY next week. 21 days after handing over my keys!
I fortunately don’t need the money urgently. But just shocked at the level of incompetence here. Needless to say when VW asked for feedback they did not get a 5 Star Review!
Shame as I really love the car. If it weren’t for the warranty benefit I would never buy from a Main Dealer again.

Is the dealer part of a big group? Ring their head office.
Maybe it's a VAG thing - found out by chance, when the dealer did first MOT and stuck an advisory on the car, that they'd "forgotten" to put a 5yr warranty on daughter's SEAT. It became apparent they knew, but hadn't said anything and just kept the money. Of course they said they'd refund it (as if simply doing that draws a line under their error) but it still took a month.

They’re part of a large group that own other marqued dealers as well. I have no paperwork showing the 2 years warranty so may need to chase them up on that also. Not at the stage yet that I’m going to start ringing the head office but come Wednesday if there’s still no money in my account I might have to.Maybe it's a VAG thing - found out by chance, when the dealer did first MOT and stuck an advisory on the car, that they'd "forgotten" to put a 5yr warranty on daughter's SEAT. Just find it amazing a dealer can keep my money as long as they want, but if I took the golf and didn’t pay them for 21 days they would have the police onto me for fraud.
Be patient, they’re not going to run away with your money. I imagine the admin or accounts staff who deal with this were closed for Christmas/New Year and chuck in COVID stuff and things can be delayed. Bigger multiple dealerships probably have a centralised system where they can be inadvertently affected more by outside influences.
I was in a similar situation and it took a nudge to their accounts dept via my salesman and it was sorted. Took about 10 days in all and the paperwork for warranty and whatnot came in dribs and drabs over a similar time frame but it was all sorted and didn’t sully my opinion of the dealership.

Being given a "christmas hamper" seems a really back street, dodgy dealer type of thing to do.
Personally, i would have thought, they can shove the hamper and knock a few more quid off- and IF, i decide to give a review, it will be when i get to see how they are with after service.
Dealership sounds w
k.

They have the time to sort the finance, process the deposit and do everything else, so they get paid. They now have the OP's car and haven't paid for it in full.
Simply a case of not giving a f
k because they no longer need to. Had similar experience when I traded in a car to them a few years back (northampton vw). I think it took at least a week to get what they owed me. Not good enough really, they wanted all the money from me before I could drive away in their car...
I also wasn't forewarned, just expected it a day or two later.

Why did you drive off in the Golf without the rest of your money? ...
if the situation were reversed, do you think they'd let you drive off in the Audi without paying the difference?
I’m buying from a VW Dealership, not a FB Marketplace dealer. Apparently it’s just how they work nowadays. A friend had the same issue with BMW when they PX’d their polo. Took 3 weeks for them to to pay him!if the situation were reversed, do you think they'd let you drive off in the Audi without paying the difference?
I had this some years ago when I part exchanged my M3 at an Audi dealer.
The M3 was sold to the BMW dealer under the same umbrella of companies as the Audi dealership. It was advertised and sold on immediately yet the finance I had on the M3 hadn’t been settled. It dragged on that long that I “missed” a payment on the M3 and the finance company were chasing me for the money that month.
It was eventually sorted but from memory it took around 4 weeks and it was a complete headache. The Audi broke down within a week too, and I eventually rejected it.
Only saving grace was I got a grand more than anywhere else for the M3 at the Audi dealership and a full refund on the car I rejected so I was technically a grand better off
