Hi all!
Currently have a GT86 and do really like the car. However i am considering looking into purchasing an Audi s1 and want to know if people think I should keep the 86 or not. I would use it as a daily and do a few track days a year, some roads trips such as Nurburgring and the nc500. I would chip the s1 and update the clutch too as I know it’s the cars Achilles heel. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Chalk and cheese, so hard to compare. The S1 is the quicker more usable car, but the GT86 is likely the more rewarding and engaging drive.

I would hold onto the GT86 personally and make some improvements. I'm guessing forced induction on the Toyota isn't an option for you if you are looking for some more grunt?

Yeah that’s my issue. I know the 86 is more engaging however the s1 is probably an easier to live with daily. I would fear the reliability of forced induction and n the 86 too. Part of me does want more power however not 100% necessary. Any other car suggestions would be nice, needs to be less than 18k and pcp applicable

I would be apprehensive moving to an S1. Sounds like a brilliant package but worried that it would be slightly dull.

If I was looking for an all round road/track car around that budget, I would look at Megane 250/265/275 Cup/Trophy's or Cupra 290/300's personally. Easy to live with, both very capable pretty much everywhere and rewarding to drive, the Meg especially.

My thoughts exactly about the s1. And also very good suggestions, I will look into them!

I cannot imagine swapping mine for something as mundane as an S1. I would much rather take the 86 to all the places you mentioned. Unless there is a baby on the way, I would stick.

I’ve never looked at the S1 but have heard it’s not all that entertaining to drive.

Funnily enough I was watching a 5th gear showdown last night between the GT86 and the RS250 Megane. The Renault was very slightly quicker around a track than the Toyota but not by much. In the end they concluded that the GT86 was the better car in terms of driver involvement.

Maybe having something which is more useable as a daily means you do need to compromise on fun and enjoyment?

I know you want to go for the PCP option, but you can pick up a 250 Cup with some tasteful upgrades for around £10k. Personal loan should be well under £200pm and the car is yours at the end. I would be surprised if it loses much money too. Hard to beat all things considered at this price point.

I echo the calls for a Megane or as an alternative the Astra GTC VXR is a good shout & you'll get a nice one for between 10-12k, which is personal loan territory.
