I've seen a few cars I like recently but the dealer price is so far off WBAC I'm not sure where I should be aiming with private sellers.

For example -

WBAC - £15,775
Dealer - £24k

WBAC - £11,300
Dealer - £19k

Has the WBAC bubble burst or is this really what dealers are getting cars for?

Wouldn’t private sale be right in the middle?

Example 1 - 20k
Example 2 - 15k

Unless you’re selling a car I don’t think using WBAC as a guide is all that helpful. It all depends on what you want, what is out there and what price people are asking.

I think it’s car dependent
For me:
WBAC: £23700
Motorway estimate: £25500
Dealer: £21500

Prices often rise through January so check back

WBAC bought my car for £14700 in August. It was subsequently listed by a franchised dealer for £20k. This dropped every few weeks until it disappeared from sale at £17k. It had been up for about 3 months. At the time that’s what Cazoo we’re offering.

Hope that’s some help.

What's it worth on WBAC now? Seems like there has been a big drop in offers recently but not sure if that'll be permanent or not

Offered 13k on my Octavia. Accurately described.

After the chipping down exercise it was down 1k (which was less of a battle than expected) as they were VERY picky, pushing the definition of ‘wear and tear’.

PX’d to Cinch for £13k instead as the car I wanted was on there and it was very straightforward.

How did they do that? Did you omit things that you considered to be 'wear and tear' but they decided that they were 'damage' items?

WBAC still about the same. Has been ever since I sold it. Cazoo now a little under WBAC.

WBAC are a trade buyer, so using them to value something that you as a private individual want to buy is pointless

WBAC and Cinch are part of the same group - common directors in both businesses according to Companies House

As said.

WBAC are not buying your car to use themselves, they are selling it on for a profit.

You don't compare dealer selling prices to WBAC, you compare dealer buying prices.

WBAC were offering me £18700 for 69 plate 3008 back in March last year, that crept up to £21400 by July, dealer then advertised it at £25k and it sold eventually when it dropped to £23800.

WBAC at the minute are offering £19400 for fhe same vehicle, so it's down £2k from its peak in August.

But it is a fair, independent indicator of current trade value which can be used to give a buyer a guide price as to what the car could be worth.

As long as you understand that as a private buyer you can’t get a car for the same price that WBAC or similar are offering.

Another indicator is the dealer forecourt price. This is easily established by looking at cars for sale on AT.

If you are looking to buy from a private seller then the price should be in between the two. Usually the advertised price with a little bit knocked off, same as it’s always been.
