This sort of question comes up quite often in here, where family/partner/parents offer a specific sum of money to buy a watch with, and my advice is always the same:

1) Absolutely pointless asking any of us what we think. The only thing that matters is that you like it. Everyone has different tastes, and we all like very different things. You might love that Oris, and I might hate it, but my opinion is totally irrelevant. A watch is a very personal purchase.

2) Whatever you do, DO NOT just buy a watch because it fits the budget you are given. You must love the watch you are buying, and if the watch you really want is £3k, then take the £2k on offer and add £1k of your own money.

Buying something you don’t love, just because it fits the budget, will end in deep regret.

It's your watch, and if you want it to look vintage, fair enough, but that fake aged lume kills it for me.

To be a bit more constructive, what about a Junghans Max Bill chrono, different kind of vintage look?

I absolutely love this watch. I got my wife a max bill quartz and it looks great on her. The simplicity of the design is really nice I think.

I have that watch and it's a beautiful object, the cleanliness of the design is just really pleasant to look at.

It's very versatile with straps too, a nice milanese bracelet would dress it up a bit, but it also really suits distressed leather straps as well, or the sort of tan beach look of the leather it comes on.

No right or wrong answer, If you like the design then it'll do you just fine. But as others have said, don't rule out a watch you prefer if it's a little over the £2k budget...

I recently bought an Oris diver 65 to use as my daily, as I was too precious with my other watches. They have a good reputation as far as I'm aware, albeit some may suggest it is a 'mid quality' watch.

The rotor in mine is a little 'rattly' if the watch is moved around a bit (gentle shaking) which I'm led to believe is perfectly normal for ball bearing based rotors. This was a little disconcerting for me at first and I may still get it looked into under the warranty, but it's running perfectly fine, and keeping excellent time so I am not concerned.

I love that model because it's got more 4's on the dial.

What about actually going vintage?

Could get a nice Omega dress watch under budget.

Could go birth year as well, unlikely to be chrono though.

That is just fabulous. I'd never heard of Max Bills, have just researched and I now need one - I'll start saving immediately. Thanks for the nod, what a classy watch.

I am a bit of a Certina fan boy - great watches offering good value throughout the range, IMO.

This one might fit the bill. You can then buy her a Longines Conquest with the change.
