Hi all!

I have a 1978 Honda goldwing (Gl1000). The previous owner fitted black and white plates, but the font and style is wrong for the time period IMO.

I am trying to figure out what would have been fitted at the time of manufacture.

I know a 1978 car would likely have had a plastic number plate with riveted plastic letters on, like this:

Or a plastic plate with possibly different font style, similar to modern plates.

Would a motorbike of that age had the vintage yellow plate with the riveted on plastic letters? I cannot seem to find any pictures to confirm and I am not old enough to remember smile

All help appreciated

More than likely to have been an aluminium plate with the reflective yellow stuck on (with a little of the alloy showing as a border) then just stick on letters.

Can say I've ever seen the raised letters on a bike plate.

Thanks, those were my thoughts, never seen raised lettering on a bike. I will try and hunt something down, otherwise it will be a new style plate

I did wonder whether it was a hand made effort when I got the bike!

I suspect most are made on jig with special dies.

Where did you manage to source it from?
Please put a photo when you get it. I have a similar need to find an old style plate,
Many thanks

I had one from them, the yellow paint i found to be soft and when i fixed it with plastic bolts they sunk into the paint.

I did send photos to them, but they did nothing about it.

would be interested in how yours is

I will report back when fitted. Seems ok.

I did have the same experience, when they chased me for ID, having sent it 6 days prior.

I fitted the same on my 1973 TX500. Seemed correct for the bike rather than black and silver.
