I'm after a tyre inflator to keep in the back of the car in case of emergencies, are the 12v plug in type like this any any good

or am I better off going with an old school twin cylinder footpump?

I've got a proper compressor for use at home so it's not going to get used heavily (hopefully never) but if I do need to use it, I'll want one that works and inflate a 16" tyre in less than a week!

Do you have any Ryobi or DeWalt 18v cordless tools?

Think they both sell inflators, I’ve got a Ryobi one that takes the standard 18v cordless batteries. Much quicker than a manual pump and no need for a compressor.

Do have some 18v tools but not sure it's the way I'd want to go. I really want something I can leave in the boot and forget about until I need it. Not sure how long a battery holds it's charge but no doubt it would be flat when I needed it!

I'm quite happy with my portable Ring. Got me out of a few pickles, including from flat for long enough to get me to the garage in the next town.

12v plug in ones are fine to leave in the boot.

This is very good for leaving in the car:

And while you wouldn't want to leave it a long time without charge (just cos batteries lose charge) - I now use this as my main inflator - it's surprisingly good:

I stole the one from the boot of my missus' Astra before she traded it in. It's not bad compared to my previous one which was some supermarket no-brand type.

Weirdly I have the exact models as listed above, ring ones kept in both vehicles glove boxs for emergency and the cordless one in the garage. Would recommend both.
