Advice on buying a car? Kia Rio, Dacia or a MG?

Hello all,
My wife needs a car and she cant make up her mind and hoping some people can give some advice?

either a

1) New Kia Rio £15,495, 7 year Warranty
2) New MG MG3 1.5 VTi-TECH Excite 5dr £12.645, 7 year Warranty
3)New Dacia Sandero 1.0 TCe Bi-Fuel Essential 5dr £10.745. 3 year Warranty

Most important to her is a) a good warrany which is honoured well and length of warranty b) Air conditioing c) dont care about how it looks and gadgets, just want something reliable and not constantly needing repairs.

Well if it’s the most important thing to you, buy the one with the longest warranty- I think that’s the Kia on your list. They’re all much of a muchness on your list imo, so go with your most important requirements

The Kia costs 44% more than the Dacia, so you'd expect it to be a lot better!

If this is a long term keeper I'd cough up the extra for the Kia - the high mileage/older Dacias I've seen are done in (and sometimes rusty!) and the MG is a bit of an unknown quantity for durability.

FWIW despite the reverse snobbery hype I've found the Dacias to be ok to drive if you were happy with a mediocre car from the 80s but very poor compared to anything made in the West during the 21st century.

Sandero and add the extended 6 year/100k warranty for £650. It’ll lose the least money as well.

FWIW you really need to sit in the new Sandero, it’s head and shoulders above the old model. The only Dacias that have really had rust issues were the very first Dusters in 2013 and they should have all been recalled and sorted by now.

How long do you intend to keep it for? Have you considered leasing a brand new car? If for a 24-month term then you'll theoretically be paying off the depreciation for the first two years and it would have a warranty. If the Kia is 15k then assuming you pay 4k over 2 years, then over a 5-year PCP period you'll have been able to have three brand new and different cars.

I think most modern cars at those prices would offer AC as standard, but my experience and opinion (passed on from my father, and so far yet to be disproven) is that Toyotas have best AC, aside from being generally bullet-proof cars - there's a reason why so many old bangers still on the road are Japanese whilst everything else gets scrapped. Have you considered going Japanese at all?

Still, all three that you've proposed are good cars. If you intend to sell later on then consider depreciation and whether a lease is a better option.

Dacias are good cars (rebadged Renaults) although the depreciation will hit you hard, but it'll likely be easy to sell. Personally if I wanted a Dacia I'd get a Duster. MG, I'm not sure but I know it's Chinese so assume the AC ought to be robust enough. Don't quote me on that. Kia, definitely a good shout and they're partners with Hyundai so repairs and parts should I assume be easy and cheap. Generally good cars.

I'm again assuming that out of the three, the Kia would have decent reliability and AC (I had a Sportage as a rental car in the US one summer and the AC was pretty good), but that's just me. However, like Korean cars, Japanese cars tend to offer a decent amount of kit, are well-built and have powerful AC (so many Toyotas in hotter climates after all). In your position I personally (and for me only) would err on the side of caution and consider a Toyota as well.

I’d take the Kia out of these - the Rio is actually quite good to drive and has a pretty decent cabin, and obviously there’s the warranty.

the Rio is quite decent but not the best in the Kia Range. The new Sandero is a very good car and one of the best selling cars across Europe, it also comes with a 6 year manufacturer warranty for an extra £600. Will quite possibly lose the least in depreciation too. My other half is looking at getting one.

Is there much difference between a Darcia Engine 999 cc and a Kia Rio Engine 1197 cc? Its mainly a city car but lots of short trips on the motorway with occasional longer drives on the motorway. So was worried the Darcia Engine 999 cc would not cope as well as a Kia Rio Engine 1197 cc for what I need it for?

I will be changing my Dacia Logan Stepway for a Jogger next year, other half is getting a Sandero

I regularly drive mine on some very long trips fully loaded with kit and have not encountered any issues. Just had a quick Google and the Rio is down on power and torque

I am in Glasgow so can also go around Glasgow too.

So the Rio is down on power and torgue? so not as good power wise as the Dacia Som?
