Asking for a friend. No, honestly!!

Mum lives in the old family home, Dad used to own this in whole but since he died it was left to Son 2. All IHT paid.

Mum owns another house, a house that was never let out, but Son 1 lives in it. She never lived there.

Plan is when Mum dies she leaves Son 1 the house he currently lives in. They know IHT will be payable, but will CGT be?

In my experience (which may be out of date) - no.

The estate is assessed for IHT, it is paid, and the CGT clock is "reset" at whatever value was used for the IHT calculation.
