Hi, I am currently working to get an MX-5 NC (2006) 2.0 back on the road and I currently have an Airbag fault that I hope the collective brains of Pistonheads can help me with.

Dashboard SRS light is showing 1 long flash followed by 2 quick flashes which I believe is a Code 12 / SRS Control Module issue. My ODBC reader which is a Diaglink ODB2 (DIY version of MD802) shows the following:

Airbag resistance (driver): 2.6 ohm
Airbag resistance (passenger): 2.1 ohm
Continuous Codes: 1
Passenger side airbag cut-off switch: On
Pretension cat resist, driver side: 2.5 ohm
Pretension cat resist, passenger side: 2.3 ohm
Side crash sen 2 cat open/short, driver side: Ok
Side crash sen 2 cat open/short, pasr side: Ok
Side crash sen 2 cat comm, pasr side: Ok
Side crash sen 2 internal fault, driver side: Ok
Side crash sen 2 internal fault, pars side: Ok
Side crash sen 2 mount fault, drvr side: Ok

Clearly I have 1 error code above and when I do a fault check it shows 1 fault for the Restraint Control Module but then when I try and read the codes for this the scanner tells me all is ok and no codes.

I removed the SRS module and bought another 2nd hand one online that the seller said was working. However plugging it in I still have the error codes (Plus 2 more). So the question is three fold:

- Is a code 12 for an MX5 NC definitely an SRS control module fault?
- Does anyone know why the scanner shows no codes when it clearly says there is a fault?
- Is it likely I just bought a faulty replacement module and I need to buy another?

PS: The car has not been crashed as I know you need to get the module replaced or reset if an airbag is deployed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just a possibility but I had an RX-8 throwing up various airbag codes, after lots of swapping bits it turned out the dash-top display (which has the passenger airbag status light in) was at fault . The dash set up is of course different in the MX-5 but swapping the panel above the stereo could be worth a try if you can borrow a known working one .

I finally solved this using a Mazda fault finder guide here

https://ncmiata-servicemanual.com/

In my case it was the SRS module. I sent this off to crashdata in a Liverpool for a reflash of software and had it back in less than 48 hours. Plugged it in an fault gone!
