Hi,

I've been struggling to resolve an erratic idle issue with my 3.2 Carrera ('88); having checked for vac leaks, cleaned and replaced ICV etc I finally succumbed and took it to the garage yesterday after a 3 month wait (Auto Umbau). After attempting to reset idle and mix they believe that the ECU is faulty.

Does anyone know:

1) Any reputable Motronic repair shops?
2) If I cant get it repaired if there are any modern drop-in replacements? I see CANEMS did a replacement unit but it appears to be discontinued.

Trying to avoid paying £2k+labour to solve a jumpy idle if I can help it!

Cheers. I had stumbled across them when they were recommended on another forum; review online aren't glowing (averaging 1-2 stars on several sites)

Youd be better off trying a used ECÙ, maybe one of the specialists has one you could try?

Have you tried John Speake? He's a 928 specialist, but your 3.2 is a contemporary:

I can vouch for John!

Reset idle and mix? Its all done electronically by the ECU and should not need touching. If your car has an O2 sensor replace it. How thorough
was the leak checking? Inlet stacks and rubbers if not replaced could well be past their best.

The garage tried an ECU off another car and claim it resolved the issue

Idle air bypass, idle speed and MAF adjustment. Garage said they checked everything and tried an ECU off another car and it resolved the issue (they are an IB specialist)

Do they not know if any suitable repair specialists?
Try impactbumpers forum?

Don’t use BBA Reman, look at some of their reviews. I sent a Transit speedo (similar to a Porsche I know) to them for repair and they were an absolute waste of time, money and effort.

I had my ECU repaired by the ECU doctor around 9 years ago. I've recently had a problem with my car abeilt not a Porsche and contacted them again, just to rule out my ECU. They no longer do my type but recommended Avilec and my auto electrician also recommended them too having good results from them. Hope that's of some help.

Speak with Camco Automotive in Warrington, they can test and probably repair the ECU.

Thanks all - garage has put a call out to a few places, lining up some potential options just in case. Appreciate it.
