Recently bought a wireless charger which seemed to work ok on the rare occasions I used it. Last night I left my phone on the wireless charger and it began to charge normally. This morning it wasn’t fully charged, and when I looked in settings it showed the phone had charged to about 90%, then lost charge down to 70% despite being on the charger and not being used.

Any ideas why this could be?

A few months ago I spotted my phone was occasionally losing a lot of charge when not charging or in use, it hasn’t happened for a while but might this be connected? Below shows the phone losing about 60% charge overnight when not in use.

What phone and what charger?

It's possible the charger isn't powerful enough to charge the battery or there is something in the way stopping it charging properly. Got a case on the phone? Any metal in the back of the case?

It’s an iPhone XS in an apple silicon case. I went to the apple store and bought what they recommended in terms of the charger, it’s a union native wireless charger with an apple 12v adapter. The chap in the store said it would work fine with my phone (and case). It has worked ok on the six or so occasions I’ve used it over the last year but now something is playing up.

It also works perfectly with my partner’s iPhone 11 Pro.

This is the wireless charger :

And this is the adapter :

Yeah, seems like it should work. Does the battery charge fine when plugged in? Could be a battery or charging coil fault.

Probably a daft idea, but is optimised charging set?

Tried it again and it worked fine. Must be some sort of intermittent fault.

Optimised charging is turned on but I don’t see how that would cause it to lose charge when connected to a charger? Hundreds of times previously it charges to about 80%, then waits a few hours before charging to 100%.

I’ve have an Anker disc to charge my XR and recently it’s started being picky about charging my phone. Sometimes you’ll hear the charging ‘bong’ going off several times and repositioning the phone solves this, but it’s happening more and more.

It is set up to do the smart charging thing where to charges to 95% then holds off charging to 100% until early morning but I don’t think that’s connected to this issue.
