Peugeot 504, Anybody got one?
Discussion
Dad had one in 1976, dark red with a busted head gasket, had it repaired went again and soold it.
He bought an XJ6 series one in british racing green and a canvas rollback sunroof to replace it and bought another 504 ti in 1979 brand new in metallic green, it was like a spaceship to us the way it looked.
That car was sold in 1989 due to you guessed it another head gasket failure and the car was seen at one point, and had been fitted with a 2.3 diesel engine but was then lost from view.
The dvla website gives a small glimmer of hope that the car may be in a barn someplace, and Id like to get it back if thats the case.
The story is some drug runners were using it for cross channel smuggling, dont have any more specifics and I feel its probably long gone.
I would however love to be able to get a hold of it and restore it should the opposite be true.
So, anyone else still running one of these?
Not the actual car, mores the pity but same colour.

Can't help you I'm afraid, but I do have a vivid childhood memory of one of these towing a broken down, coacbuilt Bedford CF camper through Snowdonia in the late 70s. I knew they were tough, but I was still impressed.
Oh, and Egyptian taxi drivers still use them, driving without lights at night in the misguided belief they're saving the battery.

I have a soft spot for old Peugeot`s. I worked for a Peugeot Dealer throughout the 70`s, then had my own business for 24 years specialising in Peugeot`s. Long since retired.
The 504 TI saloon, (introduced in 1969) was well ahead of its time. Fuel injection, independent coil suspension and disc brakes all round. Torque tube drive to the diff`, driveshafts to the rear hubs. It was quiet and comfy to drive, a cracking car. The estate and pick up models were tough as old boots and could carry anything.

There are not many 504`s left in the UK now. All the good one`s have been shipped to Nigeria along with the 505`s. Peugeot were still producing new 504`s in Nigeria until 2008, and Kenya until 2006. They were called the African Workhorse.

Not seen one of those for an age. Went on holiday with a mate's family in a 79 504 estate about a hundred years ago. Drove to S of France, into Italy and back via Germany over 6 weeks. 5 of us, plus ttailer tent and loads of gear.
Epic trip and although the car was well used and had a few issues - exhaust fell off, front suspension collapsed - local garagistes fixed it without fuss. A comfortable and dependable workhorse.

Well after waiting a few weeks for the dvla to get back to me they finally did.
Id filled in a v888 iirc to try and get the present keepers details and see if they know where it is/went or is still around.
But alas, dvla wont play ball, citing data protection claptrap, despite me giving them the reasons for wanting to trace it etc.
So Im stuck with no way to find it short of putting an ad in local papers and hoping the current owners (if there is one) see it.
Pants.

Try the 504 man at www.clubpeugeotuk.org he may be able to tell you if that 504 is or was ever registered at the club.

Thanks for that will do, probably never was due to the fact that some less than honest characters were using it for cross channel smuggling at one point.

Why not post up the registration number here and this thread might pop up if anyone googles it? - ask an admin to add it to the thread title as well.Id filled in a v888 iirc to try and get the present keepers details and see if they know where it is/went or is still around.

My dad had a powder blue one followed by a white one, much to my chagrin at the time (I really wanted him to get a Rover P6). I remember them as being supremely comfortable.
I do find it amusing, given the French reputation for dodgy electrics, that these things just soldier on in Africa - automotive cockroaches
