We all went to see it this morning - absolutely brilliant!! Any film that can make MrRotty laugh out loud has got to be good. He's not a fan of Johnny Depp, but even he was won over. My two boys (9 & 7) loved it - especially the squirrels...
Will def. be buying it on DVD when it comes out.

Just got back this minute from it.
What a great film! I laughed out loud several time and was
with the grandpa's silent swearing whilst Charlie's ears were covered (it tickled me anyway).
Depp was totally brilliant as a slightly unhinged Wonka (did I detect a hint of Michael Jackson about his performance?
) and I can honestly say I enjoyed it from beginning to end.
Tied up pretty well with my childhood memories of the book too.

I don't know how Depp does it though - can you think of any more disparate characters than Willy Wonka, Captain Jack Sparrow, Inspector Fred Abberline, Constable Ichabod Crane and Edward Scissorhands?

Going slightly off topic here for a mo , but as a Burtun /Depp I'm wondering if Burton managed to put some pumpkins in the film somewhere . I know it's an odd thing to ask , but every Burton film has some pumpkins some place . It was bugging to know how he'd do it in this

I didn't enjoy the original movie too much, but having not read my favourite
childhood book for 38 years or more, it all came flooding back tonight.
Go see the movie and take a trip back to your childhood.

I watched it last night. JD was brilliant but it wasn't quite sinister enough for me. And the Americanisation truly grated in parts.
Typical Burton - looked great in that slightly gothic way. Script OK but not bullseye. All acting up to standard, especially the squirrels and the oompah-loompah was inspired (if a little overexposed).
Overall a good effort without quite hitting the spot. Go see....well worth risking a cinema for coz it wont be as beautiful on a telly.

And it's my birthday......just been given the order of the elbow so my rabbit is a little miffed

I had a £5 bet he would manage it some where in the film.

Just got back from watching Michael Jackson and the Chocolate Factory.
Depp was excellent and I liked the funk/psychedelic songs.
A big slice of groovadelic cheese, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the whole family.
The squirrels were the best bit.
