PH works fine on Brave, but the bloody 'unsupported browser' line isn't removable. Just keeps reappearing.

I'm not leaving Brave, so you can stop telling me.

Same for me.

We could use one of the supported browsers and get huge Japanese/Chinese spam adverts.

And me.

I don't care that it is unsupported, I like it.

It's 'unsupported' probably because of the built-in advert & privacy controls...and PH would rather you switch to a browser that doesn't have these function built in as you may forget to install an extension to do the same thing.

Makes me chuckle each time.

Is PH still virtually unusable on Chrome? I assume it is.

Probably PH's servers refusing full Brave functionality due to the sketchy behaviour of the Binance bitcoin widget that's built into Brave. Which is as good a reason as any.

"In June, its British arm, Binance Markets, was banned from doing regulated business in the country over concerns that it was not doing enough to prevent money laundering and other financial crimes on its platform." - "The financial watchdog ordered Binance to remove advertising and make it clear on its website that the company isn't permitted to operate in the U.K"

So people use a browser to protect their personal data, whilst giving all their personal data to some dory exchange with massive links to China, couldn't make it up.

Thanks for reporting – this should now be removed. It may take about an hour for it to stop appearing but if anyone is still seeing it later this afternoon, let us know!

No, it's not that. smile It predates that, it's client side as opposed to server side, it doesn't refuse any functionality, just displays the message and it's just because, well, as the code comment literally says detect privacy browsers i.e. skips the adverts. DDG is the other "privacy browser" it does it to.

I dropped of Brave because Ben said it was unsupported and I was getting privacy popups every 30 secs
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Is it better again now? Firefox and the advert handling are poor...

and yes, Brave is unusable as a browser for PH. Privacy popups continuously, every page change, every thread change, then every 15-20 secs after that as well.

Morning folks, slightly more technical answer here since I was off yesterday.

We've had the unsupported browser banner for browsers like Brave and DuckDuckGo for nearly 2 years now. It's always been dismissable, but we released an update to our site header late last week that didn't read the "you have dismissed this banner previously" cookie and so it began to appear on every page view in those browsers. Because we don't support Brave or DDG we don't test those browsers when we make code changes which is why we didn't catch it until it was raised here.

I'll just remind you that our official stance on Brave (and others, including adblockers) that we aren’t going to stop you or degrade your experience. But also, we aren’t going to support the browser if you have any trouble using it.

Happy browsing thumbup
