Samsung Galaxy J3 2016 and memory problems
Discussion
So as per the above, it is my wife's phone. For some reason she is not prepared to get involoved with anything slightly techy, so leaves me to sort it out. She is reluctant to open her phone to see what micro SD card she has, but complains that she doesn't have enough memory, therefore she just wants to chuck this phone and buy something else.
I don't like chucking away perfectly useable stuff.
Her phone originally had 2GB memory and 8GB storage. I could increase both to 256GB for around £50.
Would this massively improve the situation or is there more to it than that, possibly the phone is not accessing the memory/storage available?

This probably isn't what you want to hear, but phones these days don't last and this one wasn't exactly great when it was released. You do also need to differentiate between memory (of which it either has 1.5GB or 2GB) and storage (of which it either has 8 or 16GB). You can increase the latter, to an extent, by adding an SD card. You can't do anything about the former.
Thing is that apps have moved on in the last 5 years in terms of both memory footprint, and storage requirements. And yours weren't great in the first place. Putting in an SD card would help for sure but it's not going to fix the underlying issue. Which is the phone is simply old and largely obsolete - we haven't even started talking about old and unsupported versions of Android, for instance.
Personally I'd up the budget a little and invest in something like Moto G10, which at £130 is a ridiculous bargain and will almost certainly see her good for another 5 years.
