Ordered a set of new plates online for the car and they are not quite what I was expecting!

The front is more grey than white, and the rear is more orange than yellow!

They have the current latest bs 'e' number on them but they just look horrible.

Have I been sold some duff plates?

If that is the case, does anyone recommend a good online supplier?

Thanks

I use fancyplates.com
I select the UK legal option and have always been fine.

Just had a look on there and they seem really good, but i would like a border on mine and they only do that on the show plates and not the UK road legal plates.

Unless a border is illegal?

If you select the border you want then leave a comment saying you want UK legal font, makers name and BS mark etc then they will do that for you.

As an update, i went to our local factors who made plates and got a pair made up with the current BS 'e' and they are much more like what i was expecting.

I did also send an email to the online supplier about the odd colour and this is what they said.

'Please note you will likely not find a "bright" white number plate as they are manufactured to specific colour and reflectivity standards. Number plates are required by the British standard to be retroreflective, and to meet a strict reflectivity requirement and colour regulations. They are the size, shape, colour, etc, that they need to be to meet regulations.

The surface is coated with a very thin layer of foil, they are then coloured, then powdered glass beads are applied along with a sealant. If you look closely at the surface you'll see it has a textured effect because of this. The vast majority of the industry is supplied by 2 companies: Orafol (a German company) produces Oralite Reflective Film and Nippon Carbide Industries (an American company) produces Nikkalite Reflective Film. They are both essentially identical due to the legal requirements. These products are also used on a large number of the UK's road signs.

You will notice the colour intensity will change with lighting conditions. This is a result of the retroreflective nature of the product. In daylight your plates will be brighter, in indoor lighting they'll be duller. You can't see the reflectivity in daylight, but if you were to wait until dark and shine a light on your number plates you'd see they're highly reflective.'

whilst i was out and about yesterday and before i went into the factors, I saw a car with the same off colour rear number plate and was under the impression this was in fact true but as I was passing i thought i would go in and enquire but didnt have to, as they had plates on display in the 'correct' colour so got them made up. Only trouble is, the quality is appalling with faint yellow and white 'stripes over the leading letter biggrin

So, I'll give Fancy Plates a call and see what they can do, although on their website, on the configurator their company name is quite big on the bottom of the plate so ill see if they can make it a bit smaller
