Windows update, every day
Discussion
Welcome to a bit of an arse.
Pausing for a month and hoping that Microsoft fix it in the next update works about half the time for me.
If it doesn't get fixed in the next round of updates, you'll be looking at some googling to find out why the update failed.
Last one I had issues with, I kept having to roll back the update until I found and repaired some corrupted files.

Can you provide the exact version of Windows, from either the Windows Update panel or the My Computer panel.
This will let us know how far behind you are, and whether it would be simpler to download a newer W10 (November 2021 - 21H2/19044) instead of the individual updates that may be causing the issue.
BTW, do you have an 'security' software installed besides the built-in stuff (just in case there's something there blocking it)?
If you want to try the Windows Update Assistant, then here's the link to download Microsoft's Windows 10 November 2021 Update.

I went back and found my notes on my issue (KB5001330 which was eventually replaced by KB5003173, which had the same issue - which basically screwed my PC completely - I couldn't run most applications, and there were continual bad image errors).
This was the only issue I've had in the last 15 years that wasn't resolved by realizing the PC had been running for two months and needed a reboot.
The official Microsoft guidance is here:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/wind...
Outside of Microsoft support, the general recommendation is to run sfc /scannow first, correct any issues, then run dism.
Both sfc and dism found and corrected errors, I unpaused updates, and came down in the morning to an updated PC. No further issues.

Depends how your machine was set up to log in.I just use a username & password, and don't log-in with an email address...although with some big updates it starts up and will ask you to use Windows Hello, or a PIN, or an email instead - and you have to disconnect from the internet to get the option for a username & password.
