I am setting up my website and have Office 365 and the associated Outlook.

I have my own website hosted by another party.

Reg 123 is where I registered my domain name.

I have added the DNS details to the Reg 123 "Advanced DNS" settings as per the Microsoft instructions.

I have set Reg 123 to point my domain name at my web host's server names.

I can only send emails from my Office 365, and not receive.

Is the problem because Reg 123 now points at the web host names and therefore is redundant for email DNS? Do I need to input the email DNS information into my web hosts DNS settings now?

Thanks!

There is a separate DNS entry normally for email, however it may be something as simple as your configuration in your email client - what settings do you have ? I'm assuming you're using an O365 account for your email.

My settings (in case this is your situation) are:
POP3
pop-mail.outlook.com
smtp-mail.outlook.com

Incoming server port - 995
This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL/TLS) - ticked

Thanks for the reply.

Before changing settings, are POP etc. for when email is handled locally only?

I am running via the Microsoft 365 exchange so that email is stored on their server. Does that change your suggestion?

Hi all,

Problem resolved (ironically) got a call from the web host who were very helpful. It was a case that as the domain name holder (Reg 123) now pointed to the web host name servers, I needed to input the Microsoft 365 DNS details into the web host DNS section.

Thanks for the help.

You need an MX record on your domain DNS hosting as per your Office365 admin centre settings, to be able to receive email.

Are you actually using 123reg DNS servers, or is your domain DNS hosting provided by your website account (which is fairly common alternative). You simply need the DNS records spat out by o365 setup on whereever you're really hosting your DNS records. O365 will check they've been setup for you and let you know if theres a problem

Yes DNS records set correct now and Microsoft 365 says that tests prove successful.

Not receiving Gmail emails at the moment however I am able to send to them. I am hoping this is because the DNS records need time to update!
