I bet Nikolas Cruz wishes he'd taken a plane to Norway, instead of life he'd be out nearly in time to celebrate his 40th birthday.
EDIT: Scratch that, there's an indeterminate sentence so he could be in for a long time. Mind you for the sake of a plane ticket, it's still a better bet than the US if you're killing for the sake of killing.

The Norwegian justice system concentrates on reform, education and risk rather than punitive punishment. That’s why Norway has the lowest recidivism in the world.
In 2021 they had 27 murders from a population of 5.3 million. It works in Norway because they are a wealthy country with a very small population unlike the UK.It just wouldn’t work here with to many hardcore criminals who would exploit the system.

For comparison, our figures are 167/100k for England and Wales, 178/100k for Scotland and 96/100k for Northern Ireland. Putting us in with the cohort of mostly Eastern European states, and a long way from France and Germany, let alone the progressive Northern Europeans.

There are probably many reasons why the crime rate is much lower in Norway. Their criminal justice system might be one. I suspect emulating just their justice system without the other contributing factors wouldn’t by itself get us to Norwegian rates. It could be the first step in the right direction though.

According to a Norwegian I know, they'll just keep putting him back away for life... I suspect when he gets old and infirm they may move him to a hospital. 21 years is the maximum given sentence before the their case must be heard by a judge, it's not an automatic release. 14 years is the minimum term before being given the opportunity of parole. At the hearing the term can be extended for 5 years (after the 21 year maximum sentence) before being given another hearing, using this system the term can be extended each time by 5 years, so in effect, for life.

Norway also has an effective immigration system which means you have to be financially solvent and or have employment lined up before you’re considered which obviously keeps all the people out that you really don’t want coming in and committing crimes.

Norway has decriminalised drugs and as a result they have high addiction rates that their large welfare state choose to treat and supply essentially becoming the state sponsored drug dealer. The problem is this all has to be funded by a high taxation model for most living there with a flat rate tax of 28% plus 9% surtax on income over £55k, then another 12% over 91k,now imagine being in that bracket and knowing that you’re effectively buying class A for addicts,do you think that would be a popular policy in the UK?
Since you must be posting from some point in the future, could you do me a favour and look up next week's lottery numbers for me?(Norway, which has long had punitive drug laws, has been talking seriously about decriminalisation for about five years - it hasn't happened, and now appears to be dead. )

Perhaps, but the point is do you want you’re hard earned funding drug addicts?
You’re also forgetting the very high cost of living in Norway, £50k goes a lot further in UK than Norway.
Alcohol is 120% more than European average.
If it's cheaper and more effective than the "War on Drugs"? Yes.You’re also forgetting the very high cost of living in Norway, £50k goes a lot further in UK than Norway.
Alcohol is 120% more than European average.

If its cheaper than pointlessly cycling them round the criminal justice system then why not? You’re also forgetting the very high cost of living in Norway, £50k goes a lot further in UK than Norway.
