Fibre to the door - duct

I wasnt sure if this should be here or on in Computers and Tech.
Anyway I have placed an order with Trooli for fibre to the door to get me ultrafast broadband. This obviously relies on actually having the fibre cable getting to the house. Trooli use Openreach infrastructure ducts, poles etc. My existing phone line is underground as is everyone elses in the road, but it is underground. There is no duct between my house and the duct in the road.
Trooli therefore need to install a duct and will let me know the cost. Apparently their infrastructure provider surveyed it yesterday but they didnt ring the bell so no idea whether they have chosen what looks the easy or the hard route.
What I do wonder is Openreach are due to install fibre to the door in the next 18 months 2 years. If they do will I still have to contribute to the duct from pavement to my intake point? Anyone know?

Depends on the distance from the manhole cover in the pavement to your front door.
When i had Trooli, my setup was the same.
BT had their phone cables underground, but for some reason failed to run a duct from the pavement to my front door.
Trooli quoted me about £600, of which they paid £400. It was a straight line to the door, and then they ran the fibre around the outside of the house, at no extra cost.
Although i did take out their most expense package at the time, so i don't know if that made a difference.
Ducting distance was about 3 meters.
At a guess, Openreach may use the same ducting.

The installation is free as long as long as it’s a simple installation. It’s a simple installation if either it’s overhead so they can sling a cable from your house to the existing pole or there is an existing duct they can push the cable through.If they have to install a duct to push the cable through then there is a cost to which they will contribute, but may not pay it all.

Therein potentially lies the problem, the shortest route to the house is around 8m of which around 2m is concrete and the remainder compacted Type 1 covered with chippings. There is an alternative route which is about 8m of which 7.5m is earth and .5m concrete but the first 5m is narrow and probably accessible to only a micro digger.When i had Trooli, my setup was the same.

Had the contractor rung the doorbell I would probably have suggested I dug to 8m route to their required depth. Guess I’ll have to wait for the quote to arrive.
Interesting all this regional FFP - Is this how it gets delivered now? I can't get Trooli but our town is currently being rolled out by https://www.fullfibre.co/
We have a duct but it is about 100 metres long. I assume they can blow a cable up there or use the existing copper as a fishing line?

FTTP is available to my property now, but tbh am happy with my current service and can't be arsed with any disruption and increased cost.
Depends on whether it is FTTP or FTTPoD. For example, installation for me on an “on demand” basis was a five figure sum but if it had been there already then to upgrade from ADSL to FTTP would have been virtually free.

I now have the answer for me! Trooli are saying that the cost of providing the service to me is £1,252,80 due to the need to install a duct. They will pay £600 leaving me to pay the £120 activation fee plus £532.80 excess installation costs.
I can understand their wish to not pay the entire cost. After all they are proposing to charge me £25 a month for an 18 month contract which totals £450. So once they are already out of pocket with the £600 installation cost they are paying.
However I will go back and ask about installing my own duct!

BT/EE are booked in to upgrade my supply next month. The costing cable appears out of the ground against the house in a duct. I assume this duct goes to their manhole out on the street.
Once fitted it will have to connect to the copper wires as the entry box is nearly 3m from the router.
The router then does the Wi-Fi and has cables to the TV. I’m sure the TV has a fibre connection. Just not sure how the internal part will work as no information given.
I assume the speed should pick up as I have noticed devices starting to buffer where they didn’t before.

It is perfectly possible to have the ONT and router in different locations. However, I suspect the poster's 'copper' is meaning the existing OR copper pair that presently carries the analogue signal - which of course won't be useful for the connection between the ONT and router.
As an aside, the TV is highly unlikely to have a fibre network connection... it probably has an optical link intended for passing data between an AV receiver and the TV.

To be fair, and to avoid confusion; The fibre will terminate at an Optical Network Termination (ONT) - and then present a RJ45 ethernet port which will then run to the router over Cat5/6 copper. The ONT needs mains power.

So the fibre terminated inside the house and will need a RJ45 to plug into it the everything is the same. Will the just put an RJ45 onto the end of the cable that comes out of the ONT

The fibre will terminate externally in a box, then a fibre tail runs from the box to the powered ONT, then an Ethernet cable to the router.So the fibre terminated inside the house and will need a RJ45 to plug into it the everything is the same. I asked a for a 10 m fibre tail because I wanted to run it to my comms room , since I have a floor void I ran the cable myself to save time. I also put my own external duct on my property which OPENREACH joined to their ducting , so I could get rid of the overhead cable and pole.
My TV can connect over WIFI , but I prefer to use an Ethernet Hub and I hardwire both my EE TV box and TV separately......That's because EE TV uses some multicast packets which my EERO WIFI network does not support.
