Under bonnet pic - new & used car adverts
Discussion
I want to see photographs of everything.
The way Cazoo advertise cars on their own website is the way I'd love all dealers to do it - a comprehensive range of photos including under bonnet, boot, 4 x individual wheel photos so you can see the tyres and wheel condition, up close photographs of noticeable imperfections, and a rundown of the service history.
Big groups like Arnold Clark often upload a few blurry photos of the car before it's even been cleaned, and fill the description with a lot of b/s about "we have 4000 cars in stock and can offer finance..blah blah' instead of telling you anything meaningful about spec, owners or history.

+1 for Cazoo, shows that they have nothing to hide and it won't be a wasted journey/complex return if delivered and you're unhappy assuming everything else is in order.
I always do detailed photos in landscape and a comprehensive advert - I don't usually do under bonnet though, I don't know why but when I see it I sometimes, completely unreasonably, associate it with someone who hammers their cars. There is no logic to it I am fully aware! Perhaps I will moving forward.
The problem is there is nothing to really show apart from some plastic engine covers

Under bonnet pictures - yes, it's got an engine.
There's usually little to see in the way of problems on the top of an engine - oil follows gravity.
Too clean and what are they hiding? It's going to be dirty again soon anyway and it's not like you see it every day.
Normal and you're back to "yes, it's got an engine."
Utterly filthy and covered in oil and/or coolant stains... wellllllll, they're not going to put that one up on the advert, are they?
The stuff that I want to see around the engine bay (crash damage on the front, rusty chassis legs, changed wings, oil leaks, broken engine mounts, etc etc etc) mostly isn't going to show up on a photo of the whole bay, so on the whole I find them pretty pointless.

I like confirmation of which engine was installed. Sometimes cars which are outwardly similar with the same model name can have different engines. The seller not being aware of this doesn't mention it in the advert either. There's usually little to see in the way of problems on the top of an engine - oil follows gravity.

Anyone else like me wanting to see an under-bonnet pic when looking at new and used car adverts?
Also... if it's an estate I want to see inside the boot.
Agree, engine pic can be helpful, the boot/luggage space especially on estates and vans definitely. Can't believe the number of ads for estates and vans where there's no open rear view yet pcs of the indicator stalks, maybe a headlight, radio or two identical photos..Also... if it's an estate I want to see inside the boot.

Plus it can be useful to see which engine is fitted to it. The Volvo S60 with the black and silver engine covers Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
