I have done thousands of km on the autobahn but I fear that it is in danger. Have one more car for factory deliver in next 12 months but I suspect that the days of unlimited sides are coming to a close unfortunately.

Doubt it. They didn't even crash. People have been crashing at silly speeds and it's still unrestricted.

Edit - Politicans don't like people having fun though, so stopping that might be more important.

I've done a fair bit of driving on the Autobahns in cars and on bikes, and the biggest danger I encountered were careless [usually eastern European] lorry drivers nonchalantly pulling out to overtake. But still at 160mph-170mph it's not unusual to have Porsches, AMGs, fast Audis coming in hot from behind and giving a polite flash to pass you.

I shudder to imagine the absolute carnage that derestricted sections of motorway would cause in the UK, with the general braindead attitude of most road users and a couple of high beam flashes being received rather differently here.

Big capitalist companies such as VAG, BMW, Mercedes-Benz say 'jump', and the German government asks 'how high?', they have a loud voice and huge influence over policy decisions and matters concerning highways in Germany. They simply would not stand for restrictive rules when it comes to a valuable freedom of citizens such as no maximum speed limit on motorways. I don't think Germany are in danger of losing their derestricted Autobahn sections any time soon.

1. If you find you swerve unexpectedly across lanes when you sneeze perhaps driving’s not for you. This isn’t an issue for 99.9% of road users, I’d suggest.

2. The end point of your argument is that on derestricted sections of the autobahn all drivers should be attentive and not dawdle.

I know this sounds quite ignorant, but a situation like that wouldn't bother me in the slightest, even if it were a relative and they then died. Them dying would hurt, but there's no reason why that couldn't have happened in another country (England for example), on another road that has a speed limit involving someone else who was still doing 70, or better yet speeding - like the bloke in the RS6 doing 202 down the M40. The main issue in that sort of situation on the Autobahn is that someone is having a fit whilst driving, not the person who hits them due to ugly and inevitably circumstances. And that's not something you can change.

Truckers fall asleep whilst driving in all countries, which is st. People have heart attacks whilst driving in all countries, which is also st. But making it illegal to drive very fast down a derestricted, open, long, smooth road because of far fetched odds or a fking idiot falling asleep at the wheel/getting distracted etc.. isn't the way to go about it IMO.

Plus you need a decent amount of money, balls or luck to go 259mph down that road on 4 wheels and live. Which I think is the point of the video.

We have idiots testing racing cars on the M1 (and the Daily Mail) to thank for the UK’s 70 mph limit. This pillock may have just done the same for Germany. I drive there a lot. Basically, the speeds are only a touch higher than in the UK - 140 - 180 kph on derestricted section with only a very few vehicles exceeding that speed and then not by much. The difference is that you don’t worry about it. Now this moron has probably ruined that forever and for nothing.
