I currently work for a company that has several manufacturing facilities on the same site. I work at facility A on an agency contract however facility B is hiring new people on permanent contracts. Something about this doesn't really settle well with me and I'm wondering what other peoples views are on it.

Cheers

Site A has a temporary need and a different MD than the much more optimistic MD at facility B who made a better case for adding head count.

Why can't they hire new permanent staff?

From your point of view st system but doesn't mean it is illegal. The jobs would have to be advertised did you apply?

So they are restricting you from applying?

Why not just apply for the job, if you want a permanent job?

“The agency fees for offering full time employment to site A workers are higher than we’re prepared to pay”

Not unheard of and it can happen for a variety of reasons. For example, based on what you've said, the work at the two sites is different and therefore anybody transferring over would need retraining. Their replacements at Site A would also need recruiting and retraining. Therefore it makes sense to do the recruitment just once.
