Old skool Nogaro S3
Discussion
After owning old/new cars and how boredom can set in, I thought it was time for another car!
I daily an A5 sportback, I have an E92 M3 for weekend fun, currently stored over winter months, so it left a bit of a gap of a fun car to tinker with.
I had been looking at Clio 182/197's, R32's, and even tried a couple out, but wasn't really set on them, then remembered having owned a 1.8T quattro A3 in my younger years, so started to look at those, then swiftly moved onto 8l S3's, now they are of an age where some need some major work.
I did all my research, joined a few Facebook groups then found this one, a 2001 facelift in nogaro blue, previous owner had owned it for just shy of 10 years, plenty of history with the car and some subtle mods Inc BBS CH alloys, a liquid gauge, Miltek exhaust and some engine bay bling.
Anyway here are some pictures from today's collection, car was in IOW.

Standard petrol station stop for some 99ron on my way back

Liquid gauge showing a nice 273bhp on a bit of quiet road blast, not bad for a 20 y/o car

And a couple of pics from the seller.

Here are my other cars:

Plans for the S3, a general tidy up of the bodywork, very minor bubbling rust on boot panel and roof strips, full interior detail as it has half black leather and silver alcantara recaro's, a new climate panel as the buttons are faded as they have a rubbery material covering, maybe push for 400bhp to keep me entertained!
Other than, I have some tinkering to keep me occupied, perhaps this one will stay as a long term keeper.
More to come.

Like it.
I still have fond memories of my S3. When I bought it, it was the cheapest 225BHP model (forget the designation) on sale, at around 4 years old and it was in the colour I wanted... black/black/black. I stuck a lot of miles on it (was a 100-160 daily commute at the time) and it cost me more to run that the Tuscan S I ran alongside. Almost all of it was suspension related spend.
I vividly recall the brakes were worse than on the A3 1.8T I had but other than that I loved the fat little thing. It did need a bit more oomph though.
I've looked several times at getting another and tuning to ~400bhp or so (and putting better brakes on it!).
I'll be watching your adventures with interest!

Looks good OP.
Th3se have come full circle now, having gone through a bad period where there were lots with questionable mods.
I’ve not seen one on the road for ages now. There used to be a guy locally who had two; a yellow one and a blue one.
A family member had a late one in Avus silver (I think) on 18’s. Felt like a rocket ship to me at 20 or so.

The standard 312mm front brakes are somewhat poor for the amount of power it puts out, even at standard, I already have a set of 4 pot brembos to go on from a LCR, easy upgrade, bodywork wise it is in pretty good condition for 20 y/o but will be going to my bodyshop guy in Feb for some tidying up, keeping the exterior all OEM+ then will start to tune the engine.I'll be watching your adventures with interest!
Had a blast in it this weekend, it made me smile and laugh how it delivers the power, revs build, revs build, 3.5k turbo wakes up, car squats and then your off!
