M's effectively have no fresh air vents (everything goes through the one pipe network). On a Taimar, two of the vents go straight to the outside world giving you supposedly fresh air.
Since this weather is (fairly) rare in the UK I'd just live with it, wear appropriate clothes and drive fast enough that plenty of air gets in th cockpit. (Don't wear shorts with vinyl seats though!).
When I rebuilt my car I lined the lower bulkhead and transmission tunnel with heat abosorbent material and this made quite a difference to cabin temperatures (easier and cheaper than a/c)
Also try a 74 degree stat (Granada Towing Fitment) as in really hot weather that is advantageous as well as the engine just doesn't get as hot (assuming that it will run a stat temperature, which mine did if it was thrapped!)

You can buy square 12v fans which are designed for motorhomes. These fit reasonably well into the existing set up and can make a big difference pumping hot/cold air.
You need to spend a bit of time finding a way to plumb them in. I would advise you how I did mine, but it is undoubtedly a different set up.
Not AC but a lot more straight forward.

On the subject of A/C.
bumped into a guy recently who specialises in retro fitting air-con to vehicles. I felt obliged to ask the question just out of interest....
...he said it would be in the order of £2.5k to fit it 'properly' to an 'M' equipped with the essex engine. (Not sure if the price gets any worse or better for to 1600 or 2500cc cars)
No doubt someone out there has done it(?)
