Extremely rare film, featuring some great footage. I remember watching it on TV back in 1969.

I remember the Woodhead line in its decline - late 70's and very early 80's. There have been frequent calls to reopen it, sadly they will come to nothing. Watching the change over from electric to diesel at Guide Bridge was a guilty pleasure as a young spotter. The uniqueness of the traction - 1500V DC overhead was part of its attraction.

Even now, some 40 years later you can walk the trackbed up to the tunnel portals and imagine the sights and sounds.

It's available as a route on Train Simulator, sometimes it's on sale so keep an eye on Steam.

I remember travelling from Guide Bridge to Sheffield back in 1968 around 7pm on an EM2 hauled five coach train, there were three people on the train.

For anyone interested there are two very good Woodheead line fb groups.

I have lots of books on the line, including these very rare ones.
