Hi, I have a Dax Cobra with a supercharged 1984 RV8 in it, Im about to change it to a 5.0L TVR lump from a 1999 car. Do I still have to pass emissions for a 1984 car or do I now have to fit a cat or pass emissions for a 1999 car? I have a very understanding MOT guy, but Id be interested to know what emissions I need to pass,
Phil

Hi Phil.
If the car was registered Pre Sva (1998)the Mot emissions are "Smoke Test Only" regardless of engine age. If it is Post Sva the limits on your V5 will still apply. You are required to notify DVLA of a change of engine No/Capacity. But there is NO requirement to give the age of the new engine

The MOT rules changed recently to say that if a car is considered first used pre '98 then it has to follow the pre 1973 test (i.e. smoke test). If it's post '98 then it has to have the emissions tests from the year it was considered first used.

Pretty much exactly what has been said
