New Car for the Wife

Hello,

Hoping for some advice/suggestions please for the wife’s new car.

Budget: £5k, could go up to £6k. Do not want to take finance out as with a bit of luck we’ll go down to one salary shortly.

Just sold her Z4 E85 (as we’ll need more than two seats again thankfully, the Z4 was just short term to have some fun) and looking for a car with 4 doors, reliable, heated seats, manual and cruise control. Do not care about performance or sportiness. She also hates estates (I love them!)

I think a petrol would be suitable as 8k a year probably.

Thinking of the Astra 1.6 petrol Elite, Focus Titanium X 1.6 scti, Mazda 3 1.6 takuya/venture/sport and Mazda 6 2.5/2.0 Sport/Takuya. Just wondering if there’s any other suggestions?

Astra Elite was the first car that came to mind.

A colleague had a 2012 car which apart from a battery was completely reliable over c.100k I believe.
He has since upgraded to the newer shape so obviously thought highly of the old car!

A Kia Rio represents good value in the current market and goes under the radar of most potential buyers - solid, honest car with decent spec.

We have loads of these Astras in work as pool cars, admittedly not Elite spec but my god they are dull. I think I'd be depressed if I was having to take one home every night.

Just to close this up, thanks for the help everyone. Went to see a couple of Astras (overdue cambelt changes and bad SH) and a Mazda 6 Takuya (not serviced in 5 years as the owner thought the annual MOT included oil change etc - really nice guy that was very gutted when he rang the garage). All three were advertised as full SH.

So got a shed for the short term (annual serviced and lots of proof of Maintainance) could last us a while:





EX with heated seats, sunroof and working air con. Drives well and tight.
